“A revelation: transparent, poetic, full of life and colours.” – Pizzicato
Recognised for his luminous sound and imaginative interpretations, Italian-Australian pianist Jonathan Ferrucci is passionate about Bach and known for performances of clarity, poetic insight, and expressive freedom. He has appeared across Europe, Australia, and the United States, in venues including Wigmore Hall, Barbican Hall, and Kings Place in London; Carnegie Weill Hall in New York; and the Fazioli Concert Hall in Italy.
A Kirckman Society Artist and Keyboard Trust Artist, Jonathan’s recent projects include a US tour featuring the Goldberg Variations, concerto performances in Italy and the UK, and appearances at international festivals such as the Brighton Festival and Trasimeno Music Festival.
In January 2025, he released his debut recording of the complete Bach Toccatas with the German label Audite, nominated for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik and praised by Piano News for its “great sense of architecture and freedom” in balancing precision with spontaneity.
Jonathan continues his exploration of Bach’s music with performances of the complete English Suites in a residency at Yellow Barn in the US, and later on in the UK. He also pursues interdisciplinary collaborations, including an audio-visual album with photographer Matthew Johnson that translates each variation of the Goldberg Variations into a unique movement or shape (matthewjohnsonphotographer.com/goldberg).
His artistic vision has been shaped by studies with Giovanni Carmassi in Florence and Joan Havill at the Guildhall School, as well as deeply influenced by Angela Hewitt (mentor since 2014), and by working with Robert Levin, Aldo Ciccolini, and Zhu Xiao-Mei. His musical path has also been enriched by masterclasses with Kiril Gerstein, David Waterman, Steven Isserlis, and Richard Goode.
Parallel to his life at the piano, Jonathan is a dedicated Ashtanga Yoga practitioner, considering yoga integral to his musical artistry and life.
